The department also helps in the investigation and surveillance of various infectious
outbreaks that occur (like dengue, Chikungunya) from time to time. Certain specialized
tests like drug susceptibility testing and detection of ESBL producers, MBL producers,
carbapenem producers, MRSA, VRE, HLAR is being performed in the department.
The department has taken a major initiative in Hospital Infection Control. Surveillance
of different wards, critical care areas, operation theatres, kitchen, linen/laundry,
CSSD, TSSU, etc. for hospital associated infections and outbreaks is being done
on regular basis & measures for prevention, control and treatment of these infections
undertaken. Besides, sterility testing & quality-check of blood bags, IV fluids,
syringes, etc. & disinfectants supplied to the Institute is done as a matter of
routine on regular basis.
The Department of Microbiology is having qualified, experienced, well trained and
dedicated faculty consisting of Professors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professor
and Junior Residents/Tutor from reputed institutes of the country. The department
renders diagnostic services to Hospital and Research along with teaching facilities
to MBBS, Post graduate degree in Microbiology, Nursing and Paramedical courses.
